Geddes Federal Savings and Loan Association (then Geddes Savings and Loan Association) opened its doors to the public for the first time on Wednesday, April 13, 1949. It was originally located at 1705 Milton Avenue in Solvay. At the time of its opening, Daniel F. Mathews was elected President, and the association started with $36,000 in assets.
Now with locations in Westvale Plaza in Syracuse and Limestone Commons in Manlius, as of December 31, 2023, Geddes Federal Savings and Loan has grown to over $651 million in assets. In any given year, Geddes Federal will provide between 400 and 600 mortgages to our community which can amount to anywhere from $70 million to $136 million in loans on an annual basis.
Geddes Federal has achieved several key milestones over the last 75 years, many of which have been highlighted below.
- 1949 - Geddes Savings and Loan Association opens to the public in its 1705 Milton Avenue location in Solvay.
- 1961 - Geddes Savings and Loan Association moves to Westvale Shopping Center.
- 1964 - Disaster struck when a neighboring business caught fire and it spread to Geddes Federal Savings and Loan Association. It was reported that there wasn't much left of the facility with the exception of the vault.
- 1967 - Henry L. Bresadola was elected President of Geddes Savings and Loan Association
- 1977 - Nelson C. Hatch was elected President of the Association.
- 1982 - Geddes Savings changed its charter and became Geddes Federal Savings and Loan Association. This was done to give the Association the ability to offer more products and services to its growing customer base.
- 1989 - Geddes Federal Savings added an additional 9,000 square feet to its footprint and added a drive up window.
- 1994 - John M. Harrison was elected President. The Association reaches $160 million in assets.
- 2002 -
- William Hemmerlein was elected President of Geddes Federal Savings and Loan Association.
- Also this year, Online Banking was made available to our customers for the first time.
- 2005 - Online Bill Pay was made available to our customers.
- 2012 - Geddes Federal opens its Manlius Branch in Limestone Commons, and total assets have grown to over $480 million.
- 2013 -
- Brian R. DuMond is elected President of the Association.
- Geddes Federal expands its footprint in Westvale Plaza by taking over the space formerly occupied by Harry L. Cook drycleaners.
- 2016
- The association develops the Good Life Travel Adventures program, offering experiences and events for customers who are 55+.
- Geddes Federal introduces its new mobile app.
- 2018 - Geddes Federal started providing for its customers E-Statements, Remote Check Depositing, text alerts, and joined the All Point ATM network to offer 55,000 ATMs surcharge-free.
- 2020 - Online mortgage applications and online mortgage prequalifications for home loans were introduced.
- 2023 - Geddes implements online account opening for checking, savings, money market, and certificates of deposit.
- 2024 - Happy 75th Anniversary. Thank you to our customers, board of directors, management, and our employees who have made us who we are today.
